THE PINK HOTEL, COOLANGATTA
The aim was to accentuate the buildings mid-century features and bring it into a new luxe life with artisan lighting, high end luxury fittings and polished concrete floors throughout. Within this renovation we knocked through a number of rooms on the ground floor to create an intimate, moody Parisian style Piano Bar. The rooftop was originally unused space, so along with the owners we created a Cuban themed rooftop bar complete with draped linen daybeds for bathing in the sun and enjoying cocktails while taking in the breathtaking views from Greenmount headland to Surfers Paradise. While in the opposite direction enjoying views from Tweed Heads to Fingal headland.
Our team drew on their skill and experience in 2018 to restore the original windows and fittings, being some of the most noticeable features on this beautiful 1960’s local treasure. One of the most striking features of the building is the hexagonal glass sitting area homed by a grand chandelier, which is viewable on the corner of Clark and Griffith Streets.

We were very enthusiastic about renovating this Coolangatta icon in 2018. The guys taking on this project are mates of mine and i’d invested in the Hotel along with some of my friends and family, so we wanted to give it our all. This building was always a statement in our area and many of us remember driving into Coolangatta via Wharf St, Tweed Heads and there it sat pretty in pink for all of those decades at the roundabout and entrance to the Queensland border overlooking Greenmount Beach. During demolition we were thrilled to find the entire rooftop concrete slab is held up by these beautiful hardwood cross braced trusses, which are now exposed on the top floor.
The Building originally ‘Coolangatta Oceanview Motel’ was the project of the awarded Scottish Born, Brisbane Architect George Rae who also made his mark on the Capitol theatre in Coolangatta in 1955. Rae has a number of buildings still standing in South-east Queensland now heritage listed. The whole team are so proud to have had the opportunity to restore one of the only retro buildings left on the beachfront of Marine Parade, Coolangatta which can continue to be loved and enjoyed for years to come.
This boutique art hotel is in high demand by film crews, photographers, designers, artists and fashion labels as well as events. With shoots being booked continuously, it’s hard for the managers to keep up! Just to name a few of who have filmed or shot here; Destination Gold Coast, 7 News, City Beach Australia, Volcom AUS, SASKI Collection and A Brand Jeans, as well as a never ending list of Australian and international fashion labels. If you’d like to book an experience at The Pink Hotel I’d highly recommend the Medusa Balcony King Room and Superior King Suite. If space is what your after or a small, fully catered event you can’t go past The Artist Suite.
